Fresno, Calif. - Closing out the 2008 regular season, the Pacific women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 15 Fresno State on Saturday, April 19. The loss dropped Pacific to 6-13 on the year while the Bulldogs ended the regular season at 17-7.
After closing out the Big West season with a 6-1 win over UC Riverside, the Tigers struggled to against the No. 15 ranked team in the nation, dropping all nine matches on the day.
Playing against the No. 25 ranked doubles team, sophomore Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany) and freshman Kateryna Nezhura (Kiev, Ukraine) pushed the Bulldogs top ranked team to the brink before falling. At No. 1 doubles, Arens and Nezhura took five games, but dropped the all important break point, falling 8-5 to give Fresno State the doubles point.
In singles, the Tigers were unable to capture a point against their highly ranked foes, dropping all 12 sets played on the day.
Despite the loss, the Tigers head to Indian Wells, Calif. to take part in the Big West Conference Tournament on April 25-27, as they look to claim the claim a Big West championship. Pacific enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed.
