DEI Committee Priorities

1. Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the Tiger community across all dimensions of diversity

2. Create educational opportunities for staff and students to gain awareness and appreciation of diversity

3. Connect with diverse population of Stockton and surrounding communities through community outreach and service opportunities for staff and students

Nondiscrimination Policy:

In keeping with its long-standing traditions and policies, the university considers students, employees, applicants for admission or employment, and those seeking access to university programs on the basis of individual merit. The university does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex/gender, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, color, language use, religion, religious creed, age, marital status, gender, gender identity, gender expression, cancer-related or genetic-related medical condition, disability, pregnancy, perceived pregnancy, citizenship status, military service status, or any other status protected by law (including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972).protected by law (including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972).

Sexual Misconduct Policy – University Policy:

Pacific community members shall be able to pursue their interests in a safe and respectful environment free from any form of sexual misconduct. The University will not tolerate such acts against its members, will investigate known incidents of alleged sexual misconduct, take immediate action to stop the behavior, prevent its reoccurrence, and address its effects. Violations of the Title IX Policy are forms of sexual harassment, which constitute prohibited sex-based discrimination, under Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 and other public laws and their associated regulations. University of the Pacific addresses sexual misconduct violations through the process outlined in Pacific's Title IX Policy.

Inclusion Related to Gender Identity/Expression:

University of the Pacific is committed to fostering a climate where all identities are valued and create a more vibrant and diverse community. University of the Pacific strives to ensure that all individuals are safe, included, and respected in their working and learning environments, regardless of their gender identity or expression, including intersex, transgender, agender, and gender diverse students and employees. In upholding the principles of equity and inclusion, University of the Pacific supports the full integration and healthy development of those who are transgender, transitioning, or gender diverse, and seeks to eliminate any stigma related to gender identity and expression. Discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression is not tolerated by the university. If a member of the university community feels they have been subjected to discrimination under this Policy, they should follow the appropriate reporting/Formal Complaint process described above. The university will administratively support students and employees, including those identifying as intersex, transgender, agender, and gender diverse, may confront as they navigate systems originally designed around the assumption that gender is binary. Concepts like misgendering and deadnaming may not be familiar to all but understanding them is essential to the university’s goal of being as welcoming and inclusive a community as possible.

Sexual Misconduct – Student-athlete Code of Conduct:

Student-athletes shall avoid conduct that demeans, harasses, threatens or harms (physically or verbally) any person or that is derogatory about a person’s race, sex, religion, age, disability, national origin, or sexual orientation. Fan Code of Conduct — WCC:

We the student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and fans of the West Coast Conference respectfully represent the values of the University of the Pacific. We elevate and celebrate performance through support rather than negative behavior. Physical and verbal attacks, obscene gestures, taunting, and displays of profane language are not tolerated. We are committed to positive sportsmanship that represent our conference, our school, our team, and ourselves.

Collaborations:

In collaboration with the Office for DEI and the Center for Equity & Inclusion, the athletic department hosts an annual PRIDE Game at Softball.
