No. 10 Pacific Downs La Verne, 19-9

Redlands, Calif. - In second day of the Inland Empire Classic, No. 10 Pacific defeated La Verne 19-9. With the win the Tigers improve to 9-0 on the season and La Verne falls to 0-5 on the year. Pacific continues action Sunday, Sept. 13 against No. 14 Concordia (Calif.) at 12 p.m.

No. 10 Pacific took an early command in the first quarter as junior Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) scored the first goal of the game at the 7:38 mark. La Verne promptly responded tallying a goal at 6:21 to tie the game at 1-1, but the Tiger defense held the Leopards scoreless until the 0:50 point when La Verne scored its second goal of the quarter. Gullikson ended the quarter with two goals, while sophomore Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) and Tyler Reardon (Oak Park, Calif.) notched a goal apiece to give Pacific the 4-2 lead.

In the second quarter Gullikson yet again put Pacific on the board early, scoring his third goal of the contest with 6:04 left in the half. Junior Lorin Bartlett (Porterville, Calif.) tallied a goal 41 seconds later to put Pacific ahead 6-2. Junior Hector Lam Jr. (San Diego, Calif.), sophomores Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) and Morrison, and freshman Goran Marovic (Novi Sad, Serbia) notched their first goals on the day. The Tigers tallied seven goals with Bartlett leading the way with two goals.

Going into the second half sophomore Chris Rancourt (San Diego, Calif.) scored his first collegiate goal to put Pacific up 13-2 at the 7:22 spot. La Verne put another goal on the board with 4:40 remaining, but Pacific quickly responded 31 seconds later on Bartlett's third goal of the match. At the 2:12 mark La Verne tallied another goal however Pacific countered 17 seconds afterward on Marovic's goal to make it a 13-4 contest. La Verne notched the last goal of the third quarter with 1:33 left on the clock to cut Pacific's lead to 13-5.

During the fourth quarter freshman Richard Dietrich (Stockton, Calif.) tallied his first collegiate goal on the 6:39 mark to put the Tigers up 14-5. Morrison and Rancourt notched their second goals of the game at 6:02 and 5:38, respectively to give the Tigers an 11 point lead. La Verne notched another goal with 4:37 remaining to play. With the score 18-8 after La Verne's goal at 2:45, Pacific countered 20 seconds later on Marovic's third goal of the contest. Pacific led La Verne 19-8 when La Verne scored the final with 0:23 left in regulation to make it a 19-9 game.
