#4 Men's Water Polo Cruises Over #18 UC Irvine

Irvine, Calif. - Behind six goals from Tim Reeves, the No. 4 Pacific men's water polo team rolled over No. 18 UC Irvine, 17-5, Friday in Irvine.

Reeves set a new career-best with his six goals, while
Luis Araya, Derek Clappis, Engin Ege Colak and Ikko Saito each added two goals. Andrea De Nardi, Lucas Hastie and Devon Thumwood also scored.

Alen Osmanovic recorded 14 saves in goals and added a steal.

Pacific improves to 13-4 on the year, and 2-0 in Golden Coast Conference play. UC Irvine falls to 0-1 in GCC play and 7-8 overall.

The Tigers scored on three of their first five shots, as Colak opened the the scoring 1:46 into the game just after a Pacific 6-on-5 expired Reeves put home a rebound for a 2-0 Pacific lead at the 3:05 mark, and Araya tallied after a steal by Andres Schmidt for a 3-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Clappis stretched Pacific's lead to 4-0 before Foster Hoose put the Anteaters on the board. De Nardi responded with a goal off an Saito pass to restore a four-goal lead. Colak's second pushed the margin to 6-1. Clappis set up Reeves for his second of the game and Ikko Saito made it 8-1 with a goal at the 3:18 mark.

Jon Polos added a goal for UC Irvine before a power play goal from Brendan Fisher cut the margin to 8-3 at the half.

Saito opened third quarter with his second goal of the game, but Hoose responded for the Anteaters as the Tigers led 9-4. Reeves finished with 3:49 to go in the third. Thumwood delivered a goal on a penalty shot as Pacific led 11-4 headed into the fourth.

Reeves picked up a goal off an assist from Decker Dempsey early in the fourth, and his fifth off an assist from Araya before Clappis added another with 6:09 left for a 14-4 advantage. Bryant Joudrie tallied for UC Irvine's fifth goal.

Reeves' sixth goal of the game proved a 15-5 lead, while Araya's second and Lucas Hastie finished in the waning seconds to settle on the final margin.

Pacific is back in action on Thursday at home against George Washington in a 7 p.m. start at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
