Providence, R.I. - The No. 4 Pacific men's water polo team romped to three wins at the Bruno Classic to open the 2016 campaign, outscoring opponents 47-11 in wins over No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn (13-4), No. 16 Johns Hopkins (19-3) and No. 14 Harvard (15-4).
Ikko Saito totaled 10 goals, setting his career high twice with a hat trick in the opener and four against Johns Hopkins. Aleksandar Petrovic added six goals and four assists while Engin Ege Colak added five goals.
Kale Ai, Luis Araya and Luke Pavillard each scored four times, while Derek Clappis, Andrea De Nardi and Andres Schmidt totaled three each on the day. Lucas Hastie and Tim Reeves both posted a pair of goals, while Decker Dempsey hit the back of the net for his first Pacific goal.
Alen Osmanovic picked up all three victories, totaling 38 saves in 84:55 of action, while Dylan Becker made seven saves in 11:05 of work.
Pacific defeated No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn 13-4 in the opener behind three goals from Saito. It was his first career hat trick. Araya, Colak and Petrovic each scored twice, with Ai, Hastie, De Nardi, and Pavillard each tallying one goal. Osmanovic made 15 saves in goal, going the distance for the Tigers.
The Terriers scored first and also led 2-1 and 3-2 before the Tigers reeled off six straight goals, starting with 1:10 to go in the second quarter and continuing on to 2:51 of the third. After St. Francis Brooklyn scored to close to 8-4, Pacific closed the game with five straight goals, all from Araya and Saito to seal the win.
In game two, the Tigers downed No. 16 Johns Hopkins, 19-3. Saito posted a career-best four goals, while Ai, Araya, Pavillard, Reeves and Schmidt each tallied twice. Colak, De Nardi, Petrovic, Clappis and Dempsey also scored. Osmanovic recorded 12 saves in 20:55 for the win, with Becker playing the final 11:05 and recording seven saves.
Against No. 14 Harvard, Pacific started slow before rolling 15-4. Saito and Petrovic tallied hat tricks while Clappis and Colak each posted two goals. Ai, De Nardi, Hastie, Pavillard and Schmidt scored a goal each. Osmanovic made 11 saves, going the distance.
Harvard led 1-0 after the first quarter, but the Tigers reeled off a 9-1 run of goals over 8:03. Pacific stretched the lead to 11-2 and cruised home via 13 goals in the second and third quarters.
Pacific improves to 3-0 on the season and will face No. 18 Bucknell at 7:10 a.m. PT and No. 13 Brown at 9:30 a.m. PT to wrap the Tigers' five games at the Bruno Classic.
