Pacific Set for Tough Road Weekend at San Diego and No. 11 BYU

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's volleyball team will make arguably its toughest West Coast Conference (WCC) road trip this weekend, when it travels to San Diego and Provo, Utah to face the Conference's top squads.

VS. SAN DIEGO

  • Against the Toreros, Pacific is 0-17 all-time, which includes a 3-1 loss in the two squads first meeting this season. 

     

VS. BYU

  • The Tigers were swept at home, 3-0 when BYU came to play at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Pacific trails BYU in its all-time series 7-17 with its last win claimed on Sept. 6, 1996. 

     

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE TIGERS

  • Pacific holds tight to its plus-.500 record, currently at 12-10 on the season. The Tigers are 4-6 in conference play, which includes a weekend split against San Francisco (W, 3-1) and Santa Clara (L, 3-1).
  • Riley Patterson continues as the Tigers leader in a number of categories including points per set (3.91), kills per set (3.48), and services aces (23). She ranks second on the team with 2.77 digs per set.
  • Jadyn Tubbs ranks second in the WCC with 4.23 digs per set.
  • As a team, Pacific ranks 25th nationally with 1,179 kills and 33rd in service aces with 142.

     

SCOUTING THE TOREROS

  • San Diego is having a stellar season, going 16-5 thus far with a 9-1 conference record. Last Thursday the Toreros suffered their first WCC loss of the season after Pepperdine swept the fellow Southern California squad in Malibu, Calif.
  • Four Toreros — Thana Fayad (3.53), Megan Jacobsen (3.13), Grace Frohling (3.21), Katie Lukes (3.03) — average over three points per set. In addition, Fayad also leads her team with 2.97 kills per set. 

     

SCOUTING THE COUGARS

  • BYU boasts an 18-3 overall record, 9-1 in the WCC. Its only loss went to San Diego on Oct. 18 in Provo.
  • Senior outside hitter McKenna Miller continues to be the Cougars highest offensive threat, averaging 4.3 points and 3.66 kills per set, while also ranking second on her team with 30 service aces.
  • Whitney Bower commands the offense with 9.76 assists per set. Bower also contributes 2.55 digs per set. 
  • Middle blocker Kennedy Eschenberg hits a team-best .338 and averages 1.19 blocks per set.
  • As a team, BYU tops its opponents in kills (13.27), digs (12.44), assists (12.09), blocks (2.54) and service aces (1.64)
