Leo, Tubbs Have Career Night in Loss to Gonzaga

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's volleyball team opened Thursday's match with victories in sets one and two, but unfortunately fell to Gonzaga, 3-2 (25-18, 25-16, 19-25, 19-25, 6-15. 

The Tigers fall to 12-13 overall and 4-9 in WCC play, while the Bulldogs improve to 8-16, 2-10 against their conference foes.

 

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

  • Neither team hit very well, but Gonzaga was able to take advantage of 35 Pacific hitting errors.
  • In the first set the Tigers and Bulldogs kept the score close for most of the set, but following a Gonzaga point at 19-18, Pacific went on a 6-0 run to win with a score of 25-18.
  • The score was tied at points 1, 4, and 8 before the Tigers went on a 6-2 run to pull ahead by four points (14-10). Gonzaga remained within four points of Pacific until the 17-13 mark which opened an 8-1 scoring run that eventually led to a convincing 25-16 victory.
  • Despite outscoring the Zags, 23-18 in sets three and four, Pacific fell in the next two sets to force a final set.
  • Gonzaga was unstoppable in the final set, hitting .429, while holding Pacific to a -0.087 hitting percentage.

     

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Sophomores' Gabby Leo and Jadyn Tubbs set new career marks on the night with Leo dishing out 53 assists and Tubbs collecting 32 digs.
  • Riley Patterson led the Tigers with a double-double that included a whopping 19 kills and 12 digs. 
  • Allison Dennemann and Carissa Bradford were the only other two players to smash double-digit kills, totaling 13 and 12, respectively.
  • Kennedy Kaminsky had a stellar night on defense, totaling seven blocks (one solo, six assisted).
  • As a team, Pacific topped its opponent in points (70-68), kills (58-45), assists (57-33), and digs (82-75).
