THINGS TO KNOW:
  • Despite dropping four of their last five, Pacific battled back late on Sunday, Mar. 14 at Saint Mary's as the Tigers rallied for four runs in the eighth followed by two runs in the ninth to salvage the series and steal the series finale from the Gaels, 7-5.
  • After another successful weekend at the plate, junior James Arakawa currently leads the WCC in batting average with a .467 clip. Overall, his 21 hits on the year also places third in the conference through 13 games as the second baseman has notched at least one hit in every contest so far in 2021. Additionally, Arakawa is also tied for third in the WCC with three steals while also placing fourth in on-base percentage (.509) and eighth in slugging percentage (.556).
  • Gaining momentum with each start, senior Hayden Pearce also currently sits seventh in the conference in ERA with a 2.35 mark. As a whole, the right-hander is 1-1 with 15.1 IP in three appearances, tallying nine total strikeouts so far. As a staff, the Tigers enter Wednesday with a 4.26 ERA, good for third in the WCC as they are holding opponents to a .248 average from the plate.
  • Fresno State and Pacific have met 147 times on the diamond, with the Bulldogs holding the all-time series lead over the Tigers, 100-47. The Bulldogs have won the last three meetings over the Tigers, including the last matchup in Stockton on March 19, 2019, which was a 17-2 victory for the Bulldogs.
  • Last season, the two teams squared off on Mar. 11, 2020 in what would be the final game for each program before the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the ballgame, Fresno State came out victorious, 7-6, on a walk-off home run from Zach Presno.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
  • Fresno State is coming off their first Mountain West series victory of 2021, taking down New Mexico twice this past weekend to begin conference play, which included a 6-5 come-from-behind walk-off win on Sunday.
