Volleyball Defeats Gonzaga on Senior Day

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific volleyball team earned its second-straight win, defeating Gonzaga, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 25-14, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

"It was a great team win," Head Coach Greg Gibbons said after the match. "I think the greatest gift we could have given the two seniors was to go out and give your best effort."

The Tigers (15-13, 7-10) displayed a balanced offensive attack for the second straight match, with three team members recording double-doubles. Alexa Edwards led the team with a match-high 17 kills, increasing her season total to 383. In the process, Edwards tallied her team-leading 10th double-double of the season, adding a career-high 21 digs. The junior from Sacramento, Calif., continues to rank high in multiple offensive categories within the West Coast Conference as she ranks second in total kills and fourth in kills per set with 3.55.

Biamba Kabengele also added a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs. Kabengele, reaching seven double-digit kill totals in seven of the last eight matches, continues to rank second on the team with 281.

Recording her second-straight match with a double-double, Darina Kumanova helped propel the Tigers with 11 kills and 10 digs. Kumanova also added three service aces, increasing her team-leading total to 46.

Defensively, Jadyn Tubbs led the team with a career-high 36 digs. Tubbs, playing in her final match at the Alex G. Spanos Center, has registered 1,828 digs throughout her five-year career, placing her in third place in program history.

The Tigers jumped ahead early in the first set, winning seven of the first nine points. Never trailing in the set, the Tigers eased through the first frame and set the tone for the remainder of the contest.

The Bulldogs (6-22, 2-15) bounced back in the second set and evened the scoring at one set apiece. The Bulldogs held the Tigers to a negative hitting percentage within the set, forcing the team into 15 errors.

Despite dropping the second set, Pacific won the third and fourth frames to secure the match win. Recovering from an early 3-1 deficit, the Tigers used a 9-2 run to take a commanding 10-5 lead in the deciding set. Winning 15 of the following 24 points, the Tigers cruised through the fourth frame, ending the match on a 5-1 run. The Tigers recorded a .235 hitting percentage in the fourth set and only committed five errors.

Pacific returns to action at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, as the Tigers close out the regular season at San Francisco.
