Tigers Upended by San Francisco

STOCKTON, Calif. -- The Pacific men's basketball team dropped a 104-71 West Coast Conference decision to San Francisco Monday evening at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

In the first half, Alphonso Anderson led the Tigers (8-19, 3-9), scoring a team-high 11 points. Anderson tallied four first-half rebounds to lead all Tigers and was near perfect from the free-throw line as he connected on five of his seven attempts. The senior from Tacoma, Wash., failed to score in the second half but continued to lead the team in rebounding and was influential on the defensive side of the ball as he drew five fouls.

Pacific fell behind early in the first 20 minutes of action, as the Dons (22-7, 9-5) jumped out to a 20-9 lead at the 12:44 mark of the first half. The Tigers continued to fight back but to no avail, as the Dons went on a 10-6 run to close out the first half to lead 48-24 at the halftime break.

In the second half for the Tigers, Jeremiah Bailey came alive, scoring 15 points in the final 20 minutes of play. Bailey was one of four Tigers to score in double figures as he finished the game with 20 points and was a perfect four-for-four from the three-point line. The senior from Fairbanks, Alaska, who has improved from the free-throw line down the stretch, shot 80 percent (eight-for-10) from the charity stripe.

"We've been playing good basketball," Head Coach Leonard Perry stated after the game. "We're coming off a tough game against LMU the other night that the kids pulled out, but tonight we ran into a buzzsaw."

Nick Blake and Jaden Byers also reached double figures for the Tigers as they combined for 22 second-half points. Blake, who finished the game with 16 points, shot 54.5 percent (six-for-11) from the floor, while Byers tied his career-high in points with 10 and had one of his best shooting performances of the season.

"Jaden is a dynamic athlete," Perry said regarding Byers' play tonight. "He's still learning how to play, but the one thing he can do is get the ball in his left hand and get downhill."

Pacific returns to action Thursday, February 24, as the program celebrates senior day against Portland at the Alex G. Spanos Center at 7 p.m.
