Softball Drops Doubleheader to Northern Colorado

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader matchup against Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon at Bill Simoni Field.

Northern Colorado 5, Pacific 2

The Tigers (8-24) fell into an early hole, falling behind 3-0 after three innings of play. The Bears (14-18) opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single from Kaileigh Holland and added two more runs in the third inning on an Alexsi Barashkoff RBI double.

Pacific plated its first run in the bottom half of the third inning as Bethany Hammer worked a bases-loaded walk. The lone Tiger to record an RBI in the game, Hammer went one-for-two at the plate and has now accumulated three RBI on the season.

Hannah Glad entered the game in the sixth inning and pitched two shutout innings to close the contest. Glad, who recorded her first-ever shutout outing with at least two innings pitched, only allowed two hits and one walk in her fifth relief appearance this season.

Northern Colorado 3, Pacific 1

Trailing 1-0 early in the game, the Tigers bounced back and tied the game in the fifth inning. Carly Lucchetti led off the inning with a single and quickly made her way into scoring position. Nina Davis entered the game as a pinch hitter and followed with an RBI single, scoring Lucchetti, tying the game at one.

Northern Colorado quickly responded, scoring two runs the following inning to regain the lead. The Bears held the Tigers scoreless, only allowing one baserunner in the final two innings.

Amiyah Aponte earned her eighth start of the season and tallied her second seven-inning performance. Aponte pitched well in her 17th appearance in the circle, only allowed one earned run on four hits. The sophomore from Riverside, Calif., tallied four strikeouts, increasing her season total to 24.

"I just don't think we competed today as well as we have been," Head Coach Brian Kolze said after the game. "As the day went on, we made some adjustments but just a bit too late." "As individuals, I thought [Emily] Budelli and [Bethany] Hammer did well, and I thought Amiyah [Aponte] threw an outstanding game."

Pacific returns to action on Sunday, April 3, as the Tigers conclude its final non-conference weekend series, taking on Northern Colorado at 10 a.m.
