Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zachary Karbach

Tigers Take Down Roadrunners

STOCKTON, Calif. – In front of a raucous home crowd, the Tigers delivered, scoring four goals in their first win over CSU Bakersfield.

Ryan Her continued his torrid start to the season, scoring twice, including the game-winning goal. Abdullahi Mohamed and Avery Whipple both scored their first goals of the season. Derick Roque had three assists while Yazid Omri and Her fired four shots.

The start of the game was tightly contested as both teams looked for opportunities in the opposition's defense. It was not until the 41st minute that the Tigers broke through. Mohamed received a pass from Roque after he fought through the defense and buried it to put the Tigers up right before the half.

Looking to keep the pressure on in the second half, the Tigers responded well, with Her scoring in the 48th and 53rd minutes to put Pacific up by three goals with just under 30 minutes to play. Her was at the forefront of most of the Tiger's attacks against the Roadrunners, creating chances all night long.

"We challenged the guys, especially the seniors," said Head Coach Adam Reeves. "We have a lot of seniors, a lot of maturity, and collectively we need to do better in the second half after Thursday night, and it was a challenge to older mature guys to lead the group and show us that we can do it for 90 minutes."

CSU Bakersfield scored in the 60th minute to spoil the shutout for the Tigers. Whipple responded in the 73rd minute, receiving a pass from a corner kick and hitting a laser from 10 yards outside the box to bring the goal total to four for the Tigers. The Roadrunners scored once more in the 88th minute to bring the final score to 4-2.

"I am happy for Abdullahi," continued Reeves. "He worked hard, created a lot for us, scored a goal, had an assist, Ryan had two goals, Yazid worked extremely hard tonight. We have to continue to clean things up in the back to be successful. But overall, it was better, and I told them that tonight.

The Tigers are home again on September 1, hosting CSUN at 7 p.m.
