STOCKTON, Calif.— Pacific women's soccer (7-8-1, 1-4 WCC) fell to Gonzaga (11-3-1, 4-1-0 WCC), 5-2, on Family, Pink and Alumni Night on Wednesday.
"Tonight's result stings for sure," said co-head coach
Danesha Adams "While we scored two high quality goals, both of which got us back in the match two different times, we gave up too many big chances and ultimately it cost us the game."
The Tigers made adjustments in the second half after the Zags took control of the first with a 2-0 lead. Sophomore
Mira Scarsella scored inside the box to get Pacific on the board in the 45th minute. Sophomore
Haley Johnson was credited with the assist.
Gonzaga extended its lead, 3-1, on a second goal from Maddie Kemp in the 50th minute.
The Tigers cut the deficit to one in the 53rd minute after senior
Taylor Curtis notched her first goal of the season off the second assist from Johnson. But it was not enough for the comeback as the Zags tallied back-to-back goals to bring the game to its final score.
Pacific took 13 shots and six on net compared to Gonzaga's 14 and 10 on target.
The Zags also had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Goalkeepers
Juliana Alexander and
Libby Davy combined for a total of five saves.
"As a group, we will continue to work to be better," said co-head coach
J.J. Wozniak. "Luckily we get another chance on Saturday to get back on track."
Up next, the Tigers travel to take on Saint Mary's at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
