MORAGA, Calif—Despite a solid lead in the first half, Pacific men's soccer (4-5-4, 0-2-1 WCC) fell in a 3-2 loss after Saint Mary's (6-6-2, 1-3 WCC) made a second-half comeback on Wednesday.
The Gaels notched the first goal of the game in the 12th minute before the Tigers came back with the equalizer from fifth-year senior
Emmanuel Benson-Oladeinbo. The Lagos, Nigeria native notched his second goal of his Pacific career off the assists from fifth-year seniors
Samuel Saiz Herraiz and
Avery Whipple.
Before halftime, Whipple kicked the ball straight into the net which rolled in to extend the Tigers' lead in the 38th minute. Senior
Cory Johnson and fifth-year senior
Derick Roque were credited with the assists.
Unfortunately, Pacific wouldn't hang on for long as Saint Mary's tallied two goals in the 57th and 73rd minute to bring the contest to its final score.
The Gaels outshot the Tigers 26-13 and 13-3 on target. Saint Mary's also had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.
"We dropped another close WCC contest by a single goal," said head coach
Adam Reeves. "The small details made a difference over the course of 90 minutes, and we have to execute better throughout. We must turn around on senior night and perform over 90 minutes better to send the seniors out on a high note."
Up next, Pacific hosts its final home game of the season and Senior Night against Gonzaga at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
