Pacific Posts Runner-Up Finish at Alister MacKenzie Invitational

FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Pacific men's golf team fought to the finish line, securing second place in the 15-team field at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational Tuesday at the Meadow Club.

The Tigers (-55/797) put together a strong performance in a crowded top three with San Jose State narrowly taking first place by one stroke with a -56.

"We had a fantastic week," head coach John Cook said. "Coach Andy Moren and I are extremely proud of our effort! Hats off to San Jose State who also played well all week."

The Tigers stood in first place following the opening day after breaking the lowest team round record in school history on Monday with a 256.

On the final day, Pacific tallied three golfers in the top ten of the individual leaderboards with sophomore Carlos Astiazaran, junior Travis Robbie and junior Timothy Jung going toe-to-toe to the final hole.

Robbie and Jung each finished with a two-day tournament score of -16, collecting five-under-pars on Tuesday for a tie for fourth overall. Astiazaran earned a tie for ninth overall with a 13-under-par.

Sophomore Justin Bai carded an eight-under-par for his final score through two days to finish in a tie for 31st place. Junior Deitrek Gill moved up one spot from yesterday to cap his tournament with a five-under-par.

Freshman Brasen Briones completed his first performance as a Tiger, competing individually with a two-under-par.

The Tigers look ahead to hosting the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, beginning Monday through Wednesday at Stockton Golf & Country Club.

"We are going to take this momentum into our final two events of the fall," Cook said. "We're excited to golf at home next week!"
