Slow Start Hinders Pacific Despite Outscoring Pepperdine in Second Half

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball program turned in a strong second half Wednesday, but fell behind too far in an 89-70 outcome against Pepperdine at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The Tigers (6-23, 0-14 WCC) trailed the Waves (12-17, 5-9 WCC) by 21 at the intermission and by 26 early in the second half when they found a bit of rhythm. Pacific outscored Pepperdine 39-32 over the last 15 minutes.

A career night came from junior Cam Denson. He turned in a career-high 23 points and matched his career-high with 10 rebounds for his second double-double for the season. He was 10-of-14 from the floor as his 10 field goals made were also a career best.

Denson's efforts helped Pacific outscore Pepperdine 42-32 in the paint.

The Tigers also posted a positive turnover margin 10-8 and grabbed more steals than the Waves 7-5.

Denson was one of three Tigers in double-figures along with sophomore Moe Odum and senior Donovan Williams. Odum registered 15 points and three assists, while Williams tallied 13 points and five rebounds.

The Tigers outscored the Waves 19-7 off the bench. Graduate Greg Outlaw, senior Nick Blake, senior Jalen Brown, junior Burke Smith and freshman Villiam Garcia Adsten all made at least one field goal.

Pepperdine was guided by Michael Ajayi's 30 points and 17 rebounds. The Waves shot 30-of-60 (.500) from the floor in the game and 22-of-26 (.846) from the free throw line.

The Tigers will play their final home game of the season at 7 p.m. Saturday against Loyola Marymount. Pacific will honor five student-athletes in a special pre-game Senior Day ceremony including Blake, Brown, Denson, Lesown Hallums, Jr. and Williams.
