SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team fell 3-0 to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at Harder Field.
The Tigers (1-7-1) put on the pressure late in the match, but a pair of first-half goals ultimately lifted the Gauchos (2-3-4) to a result.
"It was a tough day on the pitch," co-head coach
J.J. Wozniak said. "Not the ideal start to the match. Going down a goal so early makes things so much more difficult over the 90 minutes. Our young group has been developing on the fly for a few weeks now so a full week until our next match comes at a crucial time. We will have intent with our areas of improvement and figure out the group that's most ready to compete for a win next Sunday."
Freshman
Sierah McCallum recorded one of the three shots by Pacific, marking her sixth straight game with a shot on goal. Freshman
Nia Vela registered an early first-half shot attempt and junior
Alexis Pashales fired a shot attempt in the closing minutes of the contest.
Freshman
Sierra Schwarz earned the nod in net for a third straight game, going up against 27 shot attempts by the Gauchos and corralling three saves on the afternoon.
UCSB opened the scoring in the third minute as a cross into the box was directed by Olivia Howard into the goal past Schwarz to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
Nearing the end of the first half, the Gauchos tacked on their second goal of the match with a rising shot in the 43rd minute. UCSB carried a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Tigers looked to regroup and respond with some offensive pressure in the second half, but the Gauchos sealed the game with a goal in the 83rd minute, resulting in the final score of 3-0.
Pacific will return to action next weekend, facing UC San Diego in La Jolla, California at 1 p.m. next Sunday.
