Volleyball Journeys to East Coast for College of Charleston Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. - A coast-to-coast weekend lies in store for the Pacific volleyball team as the Tigers travel to the College of Charleston Classic for meetings with Yale, USC Upstate and College of Charleston.

Yale and Pacific clash first on Friday at 8 a.m. (PT) at TD Arena. The Tigers will play again Friday at 2 p.m. (PT) against USC Upstate and will close out the weekend Saturday at 4 p.m. (PT) against the host College of Charleston.

Graduate outside hitter Alexa Edwards comes off an All-Rebel Challenge Tournament Team mention after a 46 kill, 29 dig, and 5.0 block effort in Las Vegas last weekend. Edwards ranks seventh in the West Coast Conference, while leading all Tigers in kills through opening weekend.

Guiding the Tigers offense is setter Jenna Heller. The senior handed out 99 assists, ranking first on the team and fifth in the conference through three matches. Fellow setter, sophomore Dylan Gilkey leads the Tigers with five aces, which is good for 10th in the WCC.

Junior libero Jayhlin Swain's 3.92 digs per set ranks third in the conference after accruing 51 digs to lead the Tiger defense. Graduate Margherita Giani posted 9.0 blocks through three matches, while junior Emily Van Groningen locked in 6.0 blocks. The pair pace the team so far this season.

Pacific is 1-0 all-time against Yale after taking a 3-1 decision in Stockton on Sept. 15, 2006. The Tigers will have their first-ever meetings against USC Upstate and College of Charleston.

Live stats are available for all three matches, while Pacific's match against College of Charleston will be streamed on FloSports.
