Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's volleyball team fell to No. 19 Cal Poly, 3-0, on Thursday, Oct. 19.
With the loss the Tigers dropped to 6-13 on the season and 3-4 in the Big West Conference, while Cal Poly moved to 15-4 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
Despite out hitting the Mustangs in the first game, Pacific fell 30-24 to the Mustangs in game one. Two critical series of points turned the tide for Cal Poly as the Mustangs scored six of the first seven points in the game. After the Tigers pulled back within four at 13-9, Cal Poly scored five of the next six points to take an 18-10 advantage.
The Mustangs raised their hitting percentage to .325 in game two, with 15 kills and two errors on 40 swings. Pacific, meanwhile, had 16 kills and six errors on 39 swings for a .256 hitting percentage. Pacific headed into the break down 2-0, following a 30-22 loss.
Pacific exited the locker room and burst onto the court with seven of the first 10 points to build a 7-3 lead. Cal Poly, however, answered with five consecutive points to take an 8-7 edge. Game three remained closed the rest of the way, but the Mustangs got the best of the exchange, taking the third and final game, 30-28.
The Tigers were led by sophomore Alexa Anderson (Los Gatos, Calif.), who had 17 kills and added nine digs. Sophomore Natalia Tomaszewska (Marklowice, Poland) was the only other Tiger in double figures, putting down 11 kills. Junior Julie Magud (Stockton, Calif.) had a team-best 19 digs for the Tigers.
Cal Poly had just one player in double figures, Kylie Atherstone, who put down 23 kills with no errors in 39 attacks.
The Tigers return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 21 as Pacific hosts UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
