Pacific Swept By No. 24 Cal Poly, 3-0

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - After a three-set sweep of the Pacific women's volleyball team at the hands of No. 24 Cal Poly, the Tigers suffered their first loss in conference play on Saturday, Oct. 4. Pacific fell to 3-9 overall and 3-1 in Big West Conference play. The win brought Cal Poly to a 9-6 overall mark and they move to 4-0 in the Big West.

Cal Poly demonstrated why it is ranked No. 24 in the nation, playing more consistently and with fewer errors than Pacific, taking the match 25-23, 25-10 and 25-21.

Both teams hit well in the first game, with the Tigers getting 16 kills in 35 attacks. The Mustangs were just a bit better, with 18 kills in 35 swings. From there, the Tigers hit .000 the rest of the match as the Mustangs ended up out-hitting Pacific .349-.120.

Cal Poly held the edge in aces (7-2), digs (34-31) and blocks (9.0-4.0).

The Tigers were led by junior Mallori Gibson (Bakersfield, Calif.) with 10 kills. Senior Kara Uhl (Long Beach, Calif.) had 11 digs for the Tigers.

Kylie Atherstone led all players with 12 kills.

The Tigers are next in action on Friday, October 10th with a home match against UC Irvine. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
