Tigers 'Topp' No. 18 UC Irvine In Overtime, 3-2

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. – Senior Alex Topp blasted home the game-winner five minute into overtime to give the Pacific women's soccer team a 3-2 win over No. 18 UC Irvine Sunday afternoon at Stagg Memorial Stadium. The Tigers erased a 2-1 Anteater lead with a Laura Hogan goal in the 75th minute.

Pacific opened the scoring in the 24th minute, as senior Nydia Ramos accepted a pass from Hogan and curled a brilliantly struck ball to the far post into the upper right corner for her second goal of the year.

The Anteaters drew even before halftime, as Irvine was awarded a penalty kick and defender CoCo Goodson finished to the lower right.

In the 68th minute, UC Irvine's Zuri Walker sent a cross from the end line, which Lexi Kopf headed in for a 2-1 Anteater lead.

Freshman Pernille Schulze-Larsen found Hogan in the box, and the Tigers' senior finished to the lower left to knot the game at 2-2 in the 75th minute.  The goal was Hogan's fourth of the season.

Each team had their chances in regulation, as Kopf came in one on one with Tiger goalkeeper Tashia Long, but Long charged out and snuffed out the shot in the 79th minute.

The Tigers followed with a pair of chances, but a header from senior Kristina Wavomba was saved by UC Irvine keeper Jennifer Randazzo, and a shot from junior Kortney Agdeppa missed high.

In the waning seconds, off a scramble in front Irvines' Zuri Walker got control of the ball and sent a shot towards the open net, only to be cleared off the line by Pacific defender Malaya Cabrera.

In overtime, the Anteaters nearly found the back of the net, but Natalia Ledzema couldn't finish in front.

In the 95th minute, a throw in by junior Lauren Olvera was batted around at the edge of the box. Topp collected it, turned and ripped a hard shot to the lower left, and as it crossed the line, the Tigers exploded off the bench to mob their senior midfielder. The goal, with 4:49 left in the overtime, was Topp's fifth of the season and 11th of her career.

Pacific out-shot the Anteaters 20-14 for the match, including 11-7 in the second half and 2-1 in overtime.

Long recorded three saves for Pacific, while Randazzo added six for the Anteaters.

Pacific remained undefeated at home, at 5-0-1, and earned a win over a ranked team for the first time since a 2-1 win over No. 22 Fresno State on Sept. 19, 2006.

The Tigers are back in action on Oct. 9, at UC Riverside in a 1 p.m. kick-off.
