Stockton, Calif. - Picking up right where they left off earlier in the day, the Pacific sand volleyball team made short work of San Jose State on Saturday, Mar. 8 to finish the opening day of their 2014 season perfect at 2-0. The Tigers ran through the new Spartans en route to a clean sweep of the afternoon's five matches. On the day, Pacific dropped just one match winning 9-of-10 contests against Santa Clara and San Jose State.
In lightning quick fashion, Megan Birch and Katy Tagart got the Tigers rolling as they blasted the team of Sabrina Webb and Flicia Segura 21-7, 21-8, for the first point of the afternoon. Right behind the two upperclassmen, Kimmy Whitson and Anne-Sophie Baurer picked up their first pair win of the young season with a 21-10, 21-16, victory over Megan Powers and McKenzie Palassou.
With two points on the board, the Tigers needed just one more point to secure the afternoon's contest. They would waste no time securing the overall victory just moments later as the final team on the courts in the first session, Hanna Levanen and Alicja Wilk took their match, 21-15, 21-9, over Lyndsay Skadeland and Cori O'Donaghue.
Making the final two matches just academic, Pacific did not let up as the Tigers went for the sweep of the newest team to the division I sand volleyball ranks. Finishing first during the second session, Pacific's top team of Kat Schulz and Lexi Elman ran away with their second victory of the season, a 21-12, 21-8, win over Tyanna Roy and Piper Kiely. Finishing the day with their second victory as well, Mia Feiner and Gillian Howard posted their own two-set sweep with a 21-10, 21-13, win over Lauren Jacobsen and Brittany Diffine.
With two wins under their belts, Pacific will get a tough test on Sunday, Mar. 9 when the Tigers host Cal for a single match at 10:00 am from the Pacific Sand Courts.
