Box Score Provo, Utah - The Pacific volleyball team fell to No. 13 BYU Saturday in three sets despite 16 kills from Ashlyn Fleming, who hit .800 for the match.
Fleming recorded her 16 kills on 20 swings without a single error for a career high in hitting percentage, while finishing one off her career-high in kills (which she set in a five-set match against Oregon State). Emily Baptista added six kills and a pair of blocks, while Alex Holt chipped in four kills on six swings, and Lauren Cline added four kills.
BYU hit .372 for the match and held a 9-4 advantage in blocks for the 25-22, 25-11, 25-17 win.
Pacific falls to 10-9 overall and 4-3 in West Coast Conference play, while BYU improves to 16-2 overall, 5-1 in WCC action.
Kills from Baptista and Holt tied set one at 6-6, but BYU took the lead for good at 11-10. Fleming and Lexi Elman tallied kills to pull Pacific within one at 13-12, but three-straight BYU points enabled the Cougars to seize control. Kills from Andie Shelton and Fleming, plus a block from Shelton, Baptista and Cline pulled the Tigers within two at 23-21, and Cline fended off set point with a kill, but BYU pulled out set one, 25-22.
In set two, a 5-0 run by the Cougars established an 11-6 margin, and Pacific never got on track, as the Tigers hit .077 to BYU's .480 in set two, as the Cougars rolled, 25-11.
Pacific opened up set three with a five straight poitns as Fleming tallied four kills and Elman added an ace, but the Cougars began to chip away and rallied back to tie on a block and a Pacific error.
A 12-3 BYU run put the Cougars in front 13-8. Fleming brought the Tigers within five at 15-10, but the Tigers would get no closer and BYU hit .469 for the set to complete the sweep.
The Tigers will return home to face Saint Mary's on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
