SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team was topped by Cal Poly Sunday, 5-2, on the road. Akram El Sallaly posted a singles win for the Tigers while Pacific picked up the doubles point.
El Sallaly teamed up with Tadiwa Chinamo for a 6-3 win over the No. 28 ranked doubles pair of Corey Pang & Ben Donovan at first doubles. Alex Giannini & Nathan Hampton also posted a win, prevailing 7-6 (5) over Garrett Auproux & Josh Ortlip in the third position. Ross Watson & Miguel Diaz did not finish their second doubles match against Karl Enander & Tim Tan as the Tigers had clinched the doubles point.
In singles, El Sallaly defeated Garrett Auproux, 7-6, 6-4, in the third position. Chinamo rallied for a set two win over Donovan, who is ranked No. 72 in singles, but Donovan came out on top, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, in the second singles match.
Pang topped Diaz, 6-3, 6-2, at first singles, and Ortlip posted a tie-breaking win over Giannini, 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (8) in fourth singles. At fifth, Antoine Noel downed Watson, 6-2, 6-2, with Hampton falling to Axel Damiens, 6-2, 6-3, in sixth position.
The Tigers fall to 5-4 overall on the year, while Cal Poly improves to 5-2.
Pacific will be back in action March 4-5 as the Tigers host the Pacific Mountain Invitational at Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
