SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific women's soccer team (5-1-9, 0-1-3) took an early 2-0 lead against Gonzaga (7-2-4, 2-0-2), but the Zags countered with two goals in the second half for a 2-2 final score. Pacific has now played 15 contests with only one loss and has nine ties.
"We know the obvious thing to say is that tonight was a tale of two halves, which it was based on when the goals were scored, but overall it was just a high level, intense D1 college soccer game between two teams who competed like crazy for the full 90 minutes." said Co-Head Coach J.J. Wozniak.
Freshman Haley Johnson scored her second goal in as many games, while fifth-year senior Haleigh Wynne fired home her third goal. She joins fifth-year senior Jenae Packard and freshman Anaya Shelton in her share of the team lead.
Senior Hana Rosenblatt recorded her fourth assist of the season. Senior Jaida Nyby put two shots on goal, and senior Brenna Crump recorded seven saves to extend her WCC lead in saves.
In the first half Johnson put the Tigers on the board first, scoring a shot that deflected off the goal post from Rosenblatt. Wynne added the second goal for the Tigers 12 minutes later. In the half, the Tigers scored two goals on three shots.
Gonzaga responded just over 10 minutes into the second half, scoring on a penalty kick to cut the Pacific lead to one. Gonzaga tied the game in the 80th minute, and both teams battled in the final 10 minutes to find the go-ahead goal with seven shots between the two teams. Gonzaga took 16 second-half shots, while Pacific had five.
"We are bummed we didn't win the game but we have to put it behind us quickly and get ready to pick up a big road win at San Francisco this coming Wednesday night." continued Co-Head Coach Danesha Adams.
The Tigers are back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, in San Francisco.
