SANTA MONICA, Calif. – The Pacific beach volleyball team enters postseason play as the Tigers take on nationally-ranked Pepperdine in the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships on Friday, April 29.
The Tigers are coming off a solid end to the regular season, earning a 3-2 win over San Francisco on April 19 at the Raney Sand Volleyball Courts. Brooklynn Thomas and Shahrzad Sadeghi picked up the first win of the afternoon, defeating Jessica Eanes and Lana Kutakhina, 21-13, 21-17 at No. 3 doubles after the Tigers fell behind 2-0 to start the dual match.
The Tigers won two of the final three matches to close out their first win of the season, capped off by a Darina Kumanova and Megan Nishimura win at No. 4 doubles. Teaming up for the 10th time this season, the duo picked up their first win, defeating Sophie Sydenham and Sara Denham, 21-19, 21-14.
Pepperdine enters Saturday's dual match on a two-match losing streak after falling to No. 8 Stanford and No. 2 TCU on April 16. The Waves, coming into the WCC Championships with their best record since the 2019 season, finished the regular season 19-10 and are 16th in the most recent AVCA Colligate Beach Volleyball Poll.
The Tigers faced off against the Waves once during the regular season, falling 5-0 at the CSU Bakersfield Tournament on February 25. Since the 2014 season, the two programs have faced off four times, with the Waves coming out victorious in all four.
