Pacific hosts Saint Mary’s for Dig Pink Night, travel to Santa Clara

STOCKTON, Calif.- After taking care of business at home for homecoming weekend, the Pacific volleyball team (12-7, 4-3 WCC) hosts Saint Mary's (10-9, 4-3 WCC) for Dig Pink night on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center. On Saturday, the Tigers travel to Santa Clara (9-10, 1-6 WCC) to take on the Broncos at 1 p.m.

The Tigers are a perfect 8-0 at home this year, having added two more wins after their 3-1 win over Portland and their 3-0 sweep over Gonzaga. They look to maintain their home court advantage as they host the Gaels Thursday night.

The Tigers have won their last three games against Saint Mary's, including a 3-0 sweep last year at home. They hold a 6-3 edge over the Gaels at the Spanos Center since rejoining the WCC in 2013.

Saint Mary's is led by Kjersti Strong, whose 2.89 kills/s ranks her tenth in the conference, while her 208 kills on the year and .337 hitting percentage rank her fifth. She paces the conference in blocks, capturing 116 total so far this year, while averaging 1.61 blocks/s.

Assisting her in the Gaels' offensive efforts are four more players with over 100 kills this year, Genevieve Bane (185), Hannah Taylor (172), Kristen Erland (127) and Clarissa Klein (104).

On the defensive side, aiding Strong's efforts, is Makenna Joyce. Her 3.92 digs/s lead Saint Mary's, while also ranking her second in the conference. Joyce has totaled 278 digs on the year.

On Saturday, the Tigers revisit Santa Clara on the road after already claiming the 3-0 sweep at home this year. They last beat the Broncos in Santa Clara a year prior, earning the 3-1 victory.

Santa Clara is led by Sophia Tulino, who paces the Broncos with 202 kills on the season. Her 3.37 kills/s rank her fourth in the conference.

Aiding her efforts with over 100 kills are Layla Truitt (177), Oren Abutbul (135) and Anna Stucchi (102). Abutbul leads the team in hitting percentage, earning a .275 mark on attempts greater than 100, which ranks her ninth in the conference.

Kat Georgiadis and Stucchi elevate the Bronco defense. Stucchi leads the team with 66 total blocks, which ranks her seventh in the WCC. Georgiadis also ranks seventh in the conference, but in digs per set. Her 3.58 digs/s leads the team and she's tallied 254 so far this year.

For the Tigers, fifth year Biamba Kabengele paces both the team and the WCC in both kills and kills per set. She's collected 259 on the season while averaging 3.70 kills/s. Senior Alexa Edwards also ranks in the top ten in the WCC with 220 total kills, while averaging 3.14 kills/s.

Assisting the Tiger offense are junior Jenna Heller and sophomore Emily Van Groningen. Heller's 526 assists lead the team and rank her fifth in the conference. Van Groningen has a .273 hitting percentage, which leads the team in attempts greater than 100 and ranks her tenth in the WCC.

Edwards and junior Megan Nishimura put the Tigers on the defensive. The two combine for 451 total digs on the year, while Nishimura's 3.84 digs/s rank her fourth in the WCC. Van Groningen bolsters the Tiger defense with her 62 total blocks this year.
