Tigers Take on the Pacific Northwest, Travel to Portland, Gonzaga

STOCKTON, Calif. - Pacific's volleyball team (15-9, 7-5 WCC) heads out for a weekend up north, traveling to take on both Portland (8-17, 3-10 WCC) and Gonzaga (3-20, 0-12 WCC). The Tigers took both wins last month at home over the Pilots and the Zags, including a sweep of the Bulldogs during Homecoming Weekend.

First up on their trip are the Pilots on Thursday night. Since they met a month ago, Portland has gone 2-5 in its conference matchups. Both wins came at home to move the Pilots to 3-6 at home this year.

The Pilots are led by sophomore Maui Robins, who paces the team with 318 kills, averaging 3.18 kills per set and 37 service aces this season. She's added 206 digs and 29 blocks to the Portland defense to rank amongst the top-five on the team. Graduate student Kili Robins leads the team with 234 digs.

Assisting her is freshman Maddie Corpe, who's 489 assists have paved the way for Portland's offense this year. Freshman Taina Kaauwai creates opportunities on both sides of the ball, as she leads the team in blocks with 74 on the year, averaging .74 blocks per set while also recording 154 kills.

The weekend concludes for the Tigers on Saturday afternoon in Spokane, Wash. Since entering conference play at the end of September, the Bulldogs are still seeking a win over a WCC opponent. Since falling to the Tigers 3-0 in October, Gonzaga has dropped its last five matches.

Leading the Zags is graduate student Zoe Thiros, who has notched 201 kills, averaging 3.19 kills per set this year. She adds 140 digs and 17 service aces, which ranks her amongst the top-five on the team. Aiding her is freshman Nia Damuni, who orchestrates the Bulldog offense, totaling 674 assists this year.

Senior Jody Smith leads the team with 59 blocks as she averages .84 blocks per set to aid the defense, while graduate student Alisa Kim has a team leading 241 digs and 27 service aces to bolster the Zags on both sides of the ball.

The Tigers lead both series on the road. They are 6-3 at Gonzaga since they rejoined the WCC in 2013. Including their most recent win this season, the Tigers extended their winning streak to six over the Zags, dating back to the 2020 season.

At Portland, the Tigers are 6-3 since 2013. Including this year's win, they are 4-1 since they restarted the series post-pandemic.
