Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Two Goals in the Final 10 Minutes Lead Pacific Women's Soccer to 3-2 Win

Resilience. Down 2-1 with less than 10 minutes to play, there was ample time for the Pacific women's soccer team on Sunday. The Tigers overcame the deficit when Jaida Nyby got the equalizer in the 82nd minute on her seventh goal of the season. Nearly four minutes later, the Tigers picked up the game-winning goal from Anaya Shelton after another successful feed from Haley Johnson, who had the assist on the Nyby goal.

"We are super proud of this group today! We started on the front foot and then let a fresh Sac State team back into the game," said co-head coach Danesha Adams.

Pacific (5-2-1) got on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when Alexis Pashales headed in the corner kick from Ryanne Molenaar for the early advantage.

Sacramento State (2-4-1) managed to tie the game almost three minutes later when Teysha-Rey-Spinney-Kuahuia picked up a feed from Ellie Farber to even the contest at 1.

The Hornets went ahead in the early part of the second half when Abigail Lopez stole a pass intended for the Pacific goalkeeper for the 2-1 advantage.
Pacific sought out the equalizer with four corner kicks in the second half before Nyby scored her seventh goal of the season at the 81:33 mark. With the game tied at 2, Sacramento State managed to get three shots off before the offense went to the Pacific side of the pitch.

Nyby nearly had her second goal of the contest but the Hornets' goalkeeper Izzy Palmatier came up with the save. Not to be deterred by an offside call in the 84th minute, Anaya Shelton knocked in the game-winning goal after the pass by Haley Johnson for the game-winning goal.

"Once we settled down and started to play a bit more, we were able to show our class. This is a gritty group. Even down 2-1, we knew we still had a chance to win the game and we did just that," said an excited co-head coach J.J. Wozniak.

With a one-goal lead for the second time in the match, Pacific refused to allow Sacramento State a chance to tie the contest in the final minutes as the Tigers came away with the victory.

"We will rest up and prepare for Fresno State at home on Thursday," added Wozniak, who was talking about the next matchup for the Tigers as they welcome the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Mental Health Awareness Night at Knoles Field.
