CORVALLIS, Ore. – In the first-ever West Coast Conference clash between the Pacific men's soccer program and Oregon State, the Tigers dropped a 4-1 decision Friday night at Paul Lorenz Field.
Â
Pacific (2-5-2, 0-2 WCC) looked to rally after freshman
Ezekiel Padilla's first career goal in the first half, but the Beavers (6-2-2, 2-0 WCC) ultimately earned the result.
Â
Padilla scored in the 35th minute, following up his initial shot with another try that whistled into the low left corner for his first goal of the season. Junior
Jose Maria Barrera was credited with an assist after he launched the corner kick that eventually found Padilla just outside the box.
Â
Senior
Joshua Moya made his ninth consecutive start in goal, collecting two saves on the night.
Â
Five Tiger players logged the full time, including Moya, senior
Emmanuel Obiefuna, graduate student
Javier Chavez, junior
Luca Baltzer and junior
Matteo Carbone.
Â
After falling behind 3-0 in the first 25 minutes, the Tigers found a lifeline as Padilla netted his first goal of the season to give his team a spark.
Â
Â
Â
Pacific put on the offensive pressure in the second half with a plethora of opportunities off corner kicks, but the Beavers held their ground for the result, adding a late goal to put the game away for the 4-1 final score.
Â
Pacific returns home for their WCC home opener, hosting Portland on Wednesday at 7 pm at Knoles Field. The Tigers are 5-5-1 all-time against the Pilots.
