Pacific Sets Another School Record at Mike Fanelli Track Classic

HAYWARD, Calif. – Pacific track and field broke the school record in the distance medley at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic this weekend at the Chabot College track.
 
The team comprised of senior Sophie Pazzo, freshman Gianna Solano, junior Sophia Livingston and sophomore Emily Wernli. Together, the group took seventh place on a time of 12:26.33.
 
On the individual event side, seven Tigers placed in the top three in their sections while six personal bests were registered.
 
Wernli and Livingston were the top two finishers in their section (88th and 92nd overall) of the 1500m, notching PR times of 4:54.32 and 4:55.54. Junior Dalee Higgins earned sixth at 5:07.27.
 
Freshman Valeria Espinoza made her first appearance in the mile, winning her section and placing 22nd overall with a time of 5:46.94. Freshman Cathrine Groenbech earned second in section and 21st overall after notching a personal best time of 5:36.03.
 
The other three that competed in the mile were freshman Alexa Meyers (seventh in section, 36th overall, 6:08.93), sophomore Briteny Goriye (ninth in section, 38th overall, 6:19.63) and freshman Beatriz Diaz (12th in section, 41st overall, 6:28.48). Meyers and Diaz both set personal best times.
 
Junior Ella Leroy earned third overall in the javelin with a 33.27m throw. The Chicago native later followed with 10.73m in the shot put, finishing 10th in section and 18th overall.
 
Sophomore Serena Yee registered 9.67m in the triple jump to place third in her section and seventh overall. The Lodi, Calif. native later followed with 1.37m to claim 15th in the high jump.
 
Senior Anahi Avila Perez crossed the finish line in third in section and 12th overall at 12:18.89 in the two mile.
 
Solano rounded out the weekend for Pacific with a fourth place section finish and a personal best time of 2:25.24 in the 800m.
 
"Great meet and lots of great performances," head coach Josh Jones said. "Topped it off by beating the school record by 12 seconds."
 
Up next, Pacific competes at the Triton Invite at UC San Diego and the Sacramento State Invitational on the weekend of Apr. 5 and 6.
