Tigers Roll Past Mustangs

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific swimming teams defeated Cal Poly with a score of 164-98 on the men's side and 165-97 on the women's side. The meet was delayed 65 minutes at the start due to lightning in the area.

"This is a huge victory for both our men and women. We have been focused on this meet since the beginning of the season," said Head Coach Katelyne Herrington. "Both teams were able to get the win today. I know how good the athletes feel, and I'm proud of them."

On the men's side, the Tigers won 12 races led by triple-winner senior Dylan Parente. He took the top spot in the 200 free, 100 free and 50 free.

Freshman Bridger Sink, junior Alex Kurotori and freshman Ethan Cole each won two events. Sink took the top spot in both the 100 and 200 breast competitions. Kurotori finished first in the 200 back and 200 individual medley. Cole got the gold in the 1000 free and 500 free.

In the 200 medley relay, junior Aidan Scott, Sink, sophomore Leland Baltazar and sophomore Mitchell Hopper contributed to a first-place finish to lead the Tigers.

The other first-place performances were Hopper in the 100 fly and Scott in the 100 back.

Freshman Gabe Windmiller was runner-up in the 1000 and 500 free, Kurotori was runner-up in the 200 free, and Hopper in the 50 free.

On the women's side, the Tigers won 11 races with sophomore Paige Sondgeroth leading the way as a triple-winner. Sondgeroth took the top spot in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 individual medley.

Junior Caitlin Tan and sophomore Jaydn Phillips were double winners this afternoon. Tan got wins in the 100 and 200 fly, while Phillips got wins in the 200 and 500 free.

In the 200 fly, the Tigers swept the top four spots with sophomore Emma Hooper, freshman Kayla Heenan and junior Taylor Moultrie all finishing behind Tan, respectively.

The other first-place finishes include freshman Diana Chan in the 1000 free, sophomore Jordyn Gonzales in the 200 back and sophomore Alexia Ferguson in the 100 free. Freshman Deanna Brazil was second in the 100 free while sophomore Kelly Kermoian finished second in the 200 free.

In the 400 free relay, the team of Ferguson, Brazil, Tan and Phillips finished first.

"We had a great week of training in Hawaii, and I felt like we continued to build as we focus on our culture. I was most pleased with our team's focus as we had elements against us," said Herrington. "We maintained our focus, even with the weather delay. That shows me how well we are preparing for conference, which is four weeks out."

The Pacific men's (3-4) and women's (4-5) swim teams are back in action at home against UC Santa Barbara for Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
